<p>This module will provide you with the opportunity to enhance your understanding of contemporary palliative and end-of-life care. You will develop your knowledge, skills and capabilities required to drive high-quality care for people with palliative care needs, along with their families/carers and communities across health and social care settings and services. Emphasis will be placed on person-centred, holistic assessment and evidence-based, multi-professional and multi-agency care for people with complex chronic or acute life-threatening or life-limiting conditions, their carers, families and wider social networks to optimise palliative and end-of-life care, and bereavement support.</p>

Nursing

Entry requirements for this course are normally:

• to be a Health or Social Care Practitioner, registered with a professional body such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) with at least 12 months post-registration employment.
• to have an honours degree at 2:2 or above, have studied at honours level or can demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard. We will consider other qualifications and experience on an individual case basis.
• to be able to identify a work-based learning supervisor in clinical practice who will support you throughout the duration of the course and verify achievement of the palliative and end of life care capabilities in practice.

If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, or equivalent. Palliative and End-of-Life Care

Critically analyse own professional role and multi-professional, multi-agency team in person-centred assessment and holistic care for people with palliative and end-of-life care needs.

Critically evaluate models of communication and psychological support for addressing the emotional concerns of people receiving palliative and end of life care and/or their caregivers.

Examine the impact of life-limiting illnesses and their management on the physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing of people affected.

Critically analyse the political, social, and strategic influences that impact on palliative care services nationally and within own clinical practice.

Critically appraise the multi-professional, legal and ethical issues inherent in providing holistic person-centred palliative and end-of-life care.

Critically evaluate the philosophy of palliative care and how this relates to the provision of effective person-centred holistic support for people with palliative and end-of-life care needs, whose potential for recovery is uncertain or who are thought likely to be dying.

Critically evaluate the evidence base in relation to the identification, assessment, and implementation of psychological, spiritual and emotional care and symptom management in advanced disease and those approaching end of life.
