Assessment 2: Oral Assessment

Students will be assessed on a given case study and give a rationale for their decision making process, diagnosis and care of a patient from a diverse group or one that has a protected characteristic. 

Case based discussion 

Assessment 1: In-Class Test

In-class tests on the theory of dental therapy.
3x 30-minute (total 1.5 hours) summative written in-class tests will be undertaken.
Each assessment will need to be passed at 40% and in the event of failing an assessment students will only have to resit the failed element.

Complex Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy in-class test

This module will introduce you to some of the more complex areas of Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy. You’ll have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of direct access, writing treatment plans and radiography reporting.
Implant maintenance knowledge and clinical skills will also be covered and alternative methods to biofilm disruption will be introduced. You’ll also learn about the care of oral cancer patients and special care patients.

be able to critique complimentary/alternative therapies, methods of biofilm disruption and review the maintenance of dental implants and associated dental diseases.

be able to critically assess the oral disease needs of patients within diverse groups including those with protected characteristics, and complex medical histories. Evaluate how this may impact decision making and treatment management.

be able to review safeguarding issues relevant to diverse groups , explain how and when to make an appropriate referral.

be able to evaluate the significance of direct access in terms of treatment planning and generating a radiograph report within the defined scope of practice.
