Assessment 2: Project Work

A Training Resource for Educational Support Staff You will develop training materials for educational support staff within a chosen setting (e.g. nursery, mainstream primary, special school, FE college). The materials will focus on one area of development (e.g. communication, social and emotional, sensory, cognition) and outline key information support staff would need: features of neurodivergent development in this area and barriers to learning, inclusive pedagogy and practice to support pupils in this area. Your training materials can be presented as annotated PowerPoint slides, annotated handouts, an annotated booklet or in a format negotiated with your tutor.

Project Work

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

You will write a 2000 word critical analysis of a first person account of neurodivergent experiences of education. This analysis of these experiences could be from a blog, podcast, video or published written material such as a book. You will use historical, sociological or psychological perspectives on child development to support your analysis..

<p>You will study theories of child development from historical, psychological and sociological perspectives, exploring how neurodivergent and autistic children are constructed within these narratives. You will explore atypical development, examining a range of neurodivergent experiences of education, and analysing pedagogical approaches utilised to strengthen inclusive practices for neurodivergent children and young people in a range of educational settings. You will explore the impact of autism and neurodivergence on individuals and their families and demonstrate critical understanding of support systems within and beyond educational settings.</p>
