Tutors will monitor development and maintenance of portfolios (logbooks) throughout the Semester and provide feedback to students in relation to the expected timetable of type and scope of patient episodes attained to allow for timely submission of portfolios (logbooks) which cover an appropriate range of patient types in appropriate detail and quality.

Feedback from placement supervisors will provide direct one-to-one opportunities for formative assessment and feedback on clinical skills, case management and professionalism and leadership skills.

Case discussion (student-selected and unseen) – consent, risk assessment, low vision and paediatric cases, diagnosis and management of disease including neurological and systemic diseases, progression and risk stratification of ocular disease and adverse events.

Directly observed assessment of patient with a complex condition including diagnosis, engagement/communication with patient and carer, accountability including risk assessment and referral options.

This optometry clinical practice programme further develops students’ clinical testing and management skills under supervision in a clinical placement setting, typically a community optometry practice or hospital eye department. It ensures that students can work effectively and efficiently in the clinical environment, including addressing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) issues and delivering safe and effective testing, management and referral of patients. CLiP Part Two includes assessment through direct observation in practice and the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
