Tutors will monitor development and maintenance of portfolios (logbooks) throughout the Semester and provide feedback to students in relation to the expected timetable of type and scope of patient episodes attained to allow for timely submission of portfolios (logbooks) which cover an appropriate range of patient types in appropriate detail and quality.

Feedback from placement supervisors will provide direct one-to-one opportunities for formative assessment and feedback on clinical skills, case management and professionalism and leadership skills.

Case discussion (student-selected and unseen) – simple conditions/abnormalities, EDI, methods of assessment including common ocular drugs for examination and treatment.Clinical Referral Task: to examine decision making around referrals, and referral documentation accuracy and quality.

Assessment 3: Project Work

Service evaluation project.
Students will be supported in identifying a topic for a problem-solving project, encouraging them to examine environment/setting, processes, costs, opportunities (including personal and technological) for improved care/outcomes.

Project Work

This optometry clinical practice programme further develops students’ clinical testing and management skills under supervision in a clinical placement setting, typically a community optometry practice or hospital eye department.
CLiP Part One ensures that students can work effectively and efficiently in the clinical environment, including addressing equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) issues and delivering safe and effective testing, management and referral of patients.
