Learning Strategy
The majority of learning on this module will be delivered through supervised sessions in the Eye Clinic with staff providing feedback to students on each patient episode and students recording all sessions in their portfolio.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will
1.
use evidence-based practice in optometric analyses.

apply aspects of the knowledge gained across the course to patient care and management.

be aware of the legal and regulatory protocols that underpin the profession of Optometry.

perform complete eye examinations and specialist investigations including the ability to accurately refract, diagnose ocular pathology, and advise/action appropriate management and correction.

use written and oral communication skills for history taking, assessment procedures, diagnosis and management both with patients and other healthcare professionals.

Assessment Criteria
Students will be required to complete a logbook demonstrating they have fulfilled the necessary requirements of the GOC in order to enter the pre-registration year (both core competencies and patient episodes). The logbooks will contain the records and reflections of patient episodes and interactions and will constitute the record for achievement of the patient episodes necessary to meet the GOC Stage 1 standards. The module handbook will provide additional guidance for students on the specific assessment criteria and marking schedules applied to individual pieces of work in line with standard university grading practices.
Minimum pass mark 50%.
