Assessment 1: Practical skills assessment

The students and the employer will actively engage for the length of the placement (up to 47 weeks). Formative feedback can have different form including but not limited to oral and written feedback on their communication, management, organizational and practical work and skills.

The employer/supervisor will observe the students&#39; performance during placement (up to 47 weeks) and provide a continuous assessment of the placement work including but not limited to their communication, management, organizational and practical work and skills

Industrial Training

SHC3003 - Industrial Training

Students on the integrated master’s degrees, MChem and MSci, take this 40 credit practice-based training module (based in an academic or industrial laboratory).
Training will normally take place across a 48-week period in a suitable organisation, usually an industrial or university laboratory. The exact nature of the training will vary depending on the specific background and demands of individual students and the opportunities available within the differing laboratory environments. Assistance is provided to help students find a suitable laboratory position. Once a position is secured, students will be instructed about the assessment criteria of the module via a 2-hour workshop. Students will usually be appraised up to twice a year by a University tutor. This module provides an opportunity for students to experience research within a laboratory related to their chosen pathway and at the same time improves their technical, social and transferable skills. The practical content of this module differs from that in the Research Project Module in that it is the students’ day-to-day laboratory work that is assessed and not a specific project.  Students are also assessed on their laboratory note-book keeping and on the production of training portfolio that reflects the demands of continuing professional development and reflective practice.

It is a condition of accreditation to notify the RSC of any changes to an accredited degree.
