Assessment 4: In-Class Test

A MCQ in-class assessment will take place at the end of semester 1.

Assessment 1: Portfolio (including examples)

Students will produce a portfolio based around 6 major topics. At the beginning of the second semester students will have an opportunity to discuss their portfolio with a tutor and receive feedback.

Workshops and practicals will contain multiple opportunities for students to practice their clinical skills and receive feedback before final assessment.

Theoretical information will be delivered with examples of  examination questions and practice questions will be available on the VLE.

The final written examination will assess knowledge and understanding gained during the module across the whole year. Students.

Practical Skills Assessment

The professional development element of the module will encourage you to explore issues of lifelong learning, reflective practice and continuing professional development that underpin the essential skills needed in order to meet registration requirements in Optometry.
Initial elements of the modules will develop your academic skills in mathematics, academic writing, literature searching using electronic databases, evaluation of material and referencing along with team working skills and professionalism.
The module will introduce fundamental clinical techniques used in examination of the eye including refraction, direct ophthalmoscopy, history taking and preliminary examinations.

Compulsory for eligibility to apply for registration as an optometrist through the General Optical Council
