Assessment 2: Portfolio (including examples)

Feedback will be provided on the tutorial portfolio and during the in-course practical sessions, together with direct feedback on skills development on the residential field course. You will be encouraged to develop a tutorial portfolio which can be used to assist in developing data processing skills and to undertake self-managed practical sessions to further develop your practical surveying skills.

Assessment 1: Written assignment (coursework)

You will be expected to complete tasks independently both inside and outside of contact sessions and to work on your own CPD.  Such tasks will be continuously assessed on a formative basis (ie receiving feedback from peers and/or staff to help your reflection and development but not contributing directly to your module grade). 
Your self and peer-assessment skills will be focused upon to support your development and to foster your professional judgement.

Assessment 3: Portfolio

In-course coursework will require students to submit practical assignment to demonstrate development of practical skills and support development of data processing and problem solving skills in the context of engineering surveying.

Individually written assignment based on previously completed group task to mimic a graduate training programme, and are aimed at helping you to reflect upon your professional working environment.

Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

This module allows you to learn from the work environment about practices within the construction industry. 
One of the attractions of construction is that every project poses unique challenges, so underlying engineering and management fundamentals need to be understood but applied appropriately to meet requirements. The module is designed to build upon your appreciation of the construction industry and the roles and responsibilities that you may undertake as you progress in your career. 
To introduce and develop your understanding of the principles and procedures of engineering surveying within the context of the construction industry. This module will provide you with experience and develop your skills in the use of standard surveying instrumentation together with associated field and office procedures for the preparation of site plans, setting out and control of construction works and the measurement of existing buildings. You will also use simulated work situations to help develop of keys skills.
