Assessment 1: Focused classwork observations

EnABLE group exercises will offer formative assessment and feedback in a range of ways. Informal peer to peer feedback will be promoted within groups and between groups at the end of the exercise. In addition, facilitators and experts will offer feedback on interim performance on planning and construction exercises. Verbal feedback will also be available as part of the competition or presentation expected at the end of the exercise.

Assessment 2: Written practice exercise

Formative assessment and feedback will be provided in a number of ways by module tutors in: face to face sessions for example through performance on tutorial exercises and where applicable through group work updates and interim reporting. Individual assignment will be generated after working collaboratively with other group members.

Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments (quizzes). Each assignment (quiz) will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

Individually written assignment based on selected topics on sustainable construction materials and soil mechanics

<p>This module will provide you with an introduction to the materials and soil mechanics encountered in Civil Engineering and general construction. You will develop an understanding of the implications of soil properties, for example, the ground conditions, the identification, description and identification of granular and cohesive soils. You will look at site and ground investigation, ground stress, effective stress and you will be introduced to groundwater and geosynthetic materials. You will also be introduced to the properties of materials and their structures, construction materials (including manufacturing processes, properties, structure and lifecycle durability), ceramics &amp; glasses, iron &amp; steel, polymers and special steels.</p>
