Learning Strategy

Learning and teaching strategies will be enquiry-based learning, methods used will include seminars, practical scenario based group work and discussions. Other activities include self-directed learning, tutorials and assessment preparation.  Service-users and carers will be actively involved with the delivery of the module.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will

Critically understand disordered physiology in relation to the individual’s acute/critical illness.
2.
Critically appraise the contribution of research and contemporary evidence base influencing the assessment, care and management of the individual presenting with a critical condition.
3.
Illustrate how to apply drug regimens safely in line with national medicines guidelines, and explore the principles of pharmacology.
4.
Illustrate how to apply decision making skills to inform differential diagnosis and defend your judgement.
5.
Critically evaluate the use of specific management plans used to promote safe, competent practice in critical care.
