Synopsis

Effective practice requires you to develop an ability to interpret and influence policy and work in partnership with others to lead and develop services. This module will equip you with the knowledge and skills to target resources, lead and manage health and/or social care practice.

Learning Strategy

A combination of lectures and action learning sets will be utilised. A challenging student centred approach utilising shared experiences, reflection and critical appraisal will be encouraged. Supportive information and additional learning resources will be available on Unilearn.

Outline Syllabus

The syllabus is structured using Kouzes and Posner (2012) framework, the sessions are titled as follows:

1 – Preparation; 2 – Model the way; 3 – Inspire a shared vision; 4 – Challenge the process; 5 – Enable others to act;
6 – Encourage the heart.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will
1.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the leadership theories, skills and strategies required to lead and manage practice.
2.
Critically evaluate the contribution of the leader in interpreting policy and influencing service improvement.
3.
Critically reflect on leadership in practice drawing on compassion, courageousness and duty of candour involved in managing people and resources.
4.
Demonstrate critical application of leadership skills through the development of practice.
5.
Apply management skills to the planning, delivery and evaluation of service improvement projects.
