Practical Skills Assessment

This module will provide you with opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiological effects of acute illness or traumatic injury along with the examination of current evidence and developments in this field of care. Emphasis throughout the module will be placed on the holistic assessment of the Adult with development of subsequent management plans from which to provide optimum care.
To support the module theory, you will be working in an acute or emergency care setting to gather evidence in support of the competencies based on the Royal College of Nursing (2017) Framework. This will contribute to achieving the learning outcomes for this module.

Assessment, Care and Management of the Acutely Ill Individual

Critically understand disordered physiology in relation to the individual’s acute condition or traumatic injury. 

Critically understand the systematic assessment, holistic care and management of an individual presenting for acute or emergency care with an acute condition or traumatic injury.

Evaluate the use of specific management plans used to promote safe, competent practice caring for the individual presenting for care with an acute illness or traumatic injury.

Appraise their own role and the role of the inter-disciplinary team in the assessment, care and management of the individual presenting for care with an acute illness or traumatic injury.

Critically appraise the contribution of research and contemporary evidence base influencing the assessment, care and management of the individual presenting for care with an acute condition or traumatic injury.
