Assessment 1: Written plan

Formative assessment in the form of an approved ethical application, a dissertation research proposal, and a brief two-page summary of your dissertation will allow feedback to be provided by your supervisor. This will be detailed in writing in the module handbook, during the online teaching sessions in term 2, and on Brightspace.

One empirical study of no more than 10,000 words.

Dissertation/Thesis/Design Thesis (Written)

You will undertake a research project, which you will design, implement and analyse. This will be in the form of a literature review of a focused topic using a systematic approach or an empirical study that draws on and makes a contribution to investigative psychology. The project must demonstrate appropriate design, methods and techniques along with interpretation and evaluation of the findings reported to a high professional standard. 
This module provides you with an opportunity to integrate the skills and learning afforded by the masters&#39; programme. You will undertake a project which you have designed and have the opportunity to implement and analyse your project. The work undertaken must demonstrate appropriate design, methods and techniques along with interpretation and evaluation of the findings reported to a high professional standard and also within a defined word limit. Your project will be either a literature review of a focused topic using a systematic approach or an empirical study that draws on and makes a contribution to Investigative Psychology. You will be expected to present your ideas to your supervisor and peers, in a short talk and prepare a dissertation proposal. An element of the project undertaken will address the implications of wider dissemination of the work in terms of strengths, limitations and its relevance to Investigative Psychology.

Demonstrate a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in Investigative Psychology.

Use an appropriate  research methodology in order to analyse and critically interpret findings of an original project in Investigative Psychology.

Demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge.

Write a research report to professional standards.

Demonstrate a critical and systematic understanding of the relationship between theory, research methodology, research design, data analysis and interpretation of findings in Investigative Psychology.
