HHM3002 - Advocacy and Leadership in Midwifery Practice

<p>In this module you’ll consolidate prior learning and develop the knowledge, skills and attributes of an accountable, autonomous midwife who effectively collaborates with and supports the development of others. You’ll explore the midwife’s role as a leader, role model and advocate for change. You’ll examine the midwife’s role in quality improvement and how environmental factors can influence care quality and outcomes. You’ll also explore the midwife’s roles in advocating for women and their families, as well as supporting women’s choices in unpredictable and pathological situations. You’ll learn the principles and methods of teaching to enable you to supervise students.</p>

Advocacy and Leadership in Midwifery Practice - Apprenticeship

Be able to evaluate and apply appropriate evidence-based approaches to supporting and supervising students’ and colleagues’ development.

Be able to critically evaluate the knowledge, skills and attributes of the midwife as an effective leader in managing unpredictable or challenging situations, effective team working and supporting the development of students and colleagues.

Be able to apply a sound understanding of accountability, autonomy and professionalism in working with women and their families to provide care that is based on individual needs, preferences and decisions and strengthens women’s ability to care for themselves and their newborn.

Be able to critically analyse the roles and responsibilities of the midwife in promoting continuous improvements in the quality and safety of sustainable maternity care.
