Evidence based policing portfolio. Students will complete a portfolio of activities that will develop and assess their academic skills, professional development and understanding of evidence-based policing. The portfolio contains an online quiz, workbook activities.

Written Assignment

You will explore the fundamental aspects of the police constable role in practice and in principle. This will include consideration of the legislation and frameworks governing the relationship of the police to communities and the extent and remit of police powers and responsibilities. You will be introduced to central policing issues of discretion and decision-making, evidence-based policing and problem-solving as well key policing functions. You will also explore essential skills and strategies to enable you to become an effective police constable and leader in your communities.

Students will be required to pass all elements of assessment to gain credit of the module in accordance with PSRB requirements.

Understanding the Police Constable Role Functions & Practice

Evaluate the role and responsibilities of the modern police force and officer within the context of community relationships, legal frameworks and criminal justice.

Appreciate the key functions of policing practice and associated regulatory frameworks (in areas of policing the roads, response policing, information and intelligence handling).

Critically appraise the importance of evidence-based policing and problem-solving approaches in critically reflecting on policing practice.

3.	Critically discuss the importance and challenges of maintaining professional standards.

Apply critical reflection to develop strategies to support your professional development and the implementation of evidence based policing approaches in practice.
