One research report between 6000 – 10000 words depending on research imperatives. It is likely that students undertaking qualitative research are more likely to use the upper end of the range of word counts, while those conducting quantitative research will write a shorter report.

Ethical Application: An application for ethics panel approval of the project. 
Can be submitted several times if necessary, but must be passed before data collection is started in accordance with British Psychological Society Code of Human Research Ethics.
This assessment task is Pass/Refer/Fail.

You will conduct research into your chosen area of psychology through the collection of original data in order to produce a coursework report. You will also communicate your research findings and work in progress through a short assessed presentation). Throughout the project you will be supported to demonstrate high level research skills, an awareness of ethical principles and approval procedures, and an ability to work independently under supervision from a qualified member of psychology staff.
Independent learning and skill development is increasingly expected throughout a psychology degree. In particular, psychology degrees normally culminate in the completion of an independent, empirical inquiry where a pragmatic approach to a time-limited project is required. Students in psychology are expected to demonstrate facility and familiarity with empirical methodology through the completion of an independent project and its report. The project will involve a substantial piece of research, which will normally involve the collection of original empirical data from participants. In exceptional circumstances, other types of work, such as computational modelling or a meta-analytical review, may be acceptable, provided that the rigorous application of high-level research skills can be demonstrated. In this module you will be given an opportunity to initiate, design, conduct and report on an empirically-based research project under appropriate supervision. You will also be able to demonstrate that you have acquired awareness of ethical principles and approval procedures and in relation to personal study.
The project module provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate that you have achieved the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out empirical investigation under appropriate supervision, and to communicate your achievement via a short presentation, and a research report.
