Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will

have knowledge and understanding of the basic workings of language structure.
2.
have knowledge and understanding of the terminology used to describe the various parts of the language system.
3.
have knowledge and understanding of the structural features of the English language in particular.
4.
have knowledge and understanding of the articulatory gestures and phonetic features of speech sounds.
5.
be able to transcribe the basic sound features of speech using appropriate symbols.
6.
be able to identify and label the basic building blocks of grammar.
7.
be able to describe the structure of words, phrases and clauses.
8.
be able to produce phonetic descriptions of continuous speech.

Assessment Criteria
Students will be required to pass all elements of the assessment to gain credit of the module as required by the HCPC standards of proficiency (2023).
