<p>In this module you will explore what childhood means in different social, cultural and historical contexts, from a range of theoretical perspectives. You will consider how social, economic and political factors impact on children’s lives and their later development. You will consider the positioning of children within society and how this can impact on their well-being and safety. You will identify current debates about children’s well-being and holistic development and consider how these are reflected in policy and practice. You will discuss children’s understanding of social and/or cultural issues for example, gender roles and expectations, mental health, prejudice, developing sexuality and sexual identity, and how the voice and autonomy of the child is taken into account in responding to social and/or cultural issues.</p>
