Students are required to submit a research proposal of not more than 500 words. Submission of partial draft of work which will be discussed with the supervisor.

Assessment 1: Dissertation/Thesis/Design Thesis (Written)

You will be assessed on the basis of the dissertation.  In this assignment you will demonstrate the ability to carry out a research study related to a current work-related problem or contemporary issue. The topic must be clearly relevant to the title of the MA Education (Early Childhood Studies) route that you are studying. The research study should incorporate evidence of critical engagement with relevant theory and a high level of evaluation, analysis and synthesis.

Dissertation/Thesis/Design Thesis (Written) 

<p>This module will help you design and develop a piece of individual research into a current work-related or contemporary issue or problem that is related to early childhood education. You will select and explain an appropriate research design, which can include action research, and techniques and you will interpret and evaluate the findings and report them in such a way as to encourage dissemination.</p>

Systematically plans, organises and implements the empirical research.

Critically analyses and interprets data using appropriate analytical techniques.

Identifies an issue or problem of professional relevance within the area of early childhood education.

Has in-depth knowledge of appropriate data analysis techniques.

Critically understands contextual theoretical and empirical research literature within the area of early childhood education relevant to the focus of the dissertation.

Critically understands the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen methodology and data collection methods.

Critically evaluates how personal professional development emerging from the research contributes to the development of the profession and the understanding of early childhood education.
