Assessment 1: Project work

Students are to produce a research poster for their proposed action research study and present it for up to three minutes to their tutor and validation group. Formative feedback will be provided by their tutor and their validation group.

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

A 4500 word research proposal for a piece of action research that seeks to change an aspect of practice. The proposed change will be specific to the student’s professional context and will normally focus on one or more of the following practices: teaching, student learning, supporting students’ learning and well-being, leading and administering, professional learning, and researching and evaluating.

<p>This introduction to the principles, practices, and tradition of action research will develop your understanding of how action research leads to research-based changes in practices and organisations. The module will help you to develop the practical skills to undertake a piece of action research, alongside deepening your knowledge of action research as a tradition and methodology. You will also explore the strengths and challenges of this approach for practice-based research.</p>

Introduction to Action Research

Critically appreciates methodological issues in relation to conducting action research in their professional setting.

Critically evaluates the contribution of published research with a view to changing practice within their professional setting.

Validates own and others’ research proposals.

Applies an appropriate form of action research whilst being alert to the potential difficulties inherent in conducting the proposed research.

Identifies and analyses a research topic related to the practitioner’s own setting.  

Uses effectively a range of paper-based and computer-based sources to conduct a literature search of published research in relation to own practice.
