Assessment 1: Portfolio

A Teaching Portfolio which includes:a) A reflective commentary (3,500-4000 words) based on personal involvement with at least one University module (though evidence may be drawn from a wider context if wished). The commentary should provide an analytical and reflective account of personal development in assessing student work and providing student feedback and support.
b) It should be supported by relevant documentary evidence that demonstrates achievement of the above learning outcomes.

Portfolio

This module will enable practitioners in higher education to discuss, from a critical standpoint, the pivotal role played by assessment and constructive feedback in developing student learning. The skills and knowledge of structures and processes required to work effectively at a variety of levels (module, pathway, department, school, university, professional body) in order to support students in their learning will be discussed. Methods and approaches to the review and assessment of academic practice in relation to assessment and feedback and student support will also be considered. The module also addresses the need to underpin academic practice with a knowledge and understanding of key educational ideas, models and theories.

Supporting and Assessing Students in Higher Education

Reviews students’ progress, and provides feedback and support to meet the needs of diverse groups of learners.

Provides pastoral support for individual students and groups of students, recognising the limitations of their expertise and using the expertise of Student Services staff in all appropriate cases.

Implements an assessment programme, marking, recording, interpreting and justifying results in accordance with agreed criteria and marking schemes.

Provides academic support for individual students and groups of students, taking into account the roles which digital and/or other technologies may play in this process.

Critically evaluates relevant theory and practice of assessment.

Analyses the role of academic and pastoral support systems in maximising student achievement.  

Develops (a proposal for) the assignments for a module including devising assessment criteria, questions and marking schemes for different types of evidence of student learning.

Critically assesses the effectiveness and impact of a range of methods of formative and summative assessment on promoting equitable outcomes for diverse groups of learners.
