Assessment 1: Written Assignment

A report (4500 words) analysing the learning and development function within an organisation. The report should provide clarity in identifying and understanding issues relating to managing learning and development in organisations. The report should include a theoretical analysis of the issues with clear recommendations for enhancement, resolution or change where appropriate and should cover all of the learning outcomes for the module.

<p>This module aims to help students develop a systematic understanding of the links between learning and development, organisation goals and broader human resource policies and practice in a variety of organisational contexts. It explores how the learning and development agenda can be promoted by examining learning &amp; development policies, roles, functions. It evaluates alternative strategies, methods and techniques for establishing learning and development needs, and critically reviews the importance of learning and development policies that are consistent with organisational goals. The management of financial, technological and human resources to support the learning and development function will be critically analysed. The module will be delivered through an action learning approach that supports students undertaking case study activity to support learning.</p>

Critically analyses and evaluates the role of learning and development within the organisation and its contributions to achieving organisation goals.

Evaluates the use of functions, processes and resources in managing learning and development in organisations.

Identify and formulate strategies and potential solutions to issues identified.

Systematically understands the principles of evaluation in determining the effectiveness of learning and development polices and procedures.

Develops a detailed and systematic understanding of the relationships between the learning and development function and organisational strategies and structures. 

Articulate clearly how strategic improvements to the learning and development function might be achieved within the organisational climate.

Demonstrates a critical awareness of the significance of policy and social trends that impact on learning and development function.
