<p>This module provides to critically examine both the global drivers of educational provision (such as the need for a knowledge economy leading to international comparisons of performance); as well as cultural developments that typically characterise the English system, (such as the enduring divide between Academic and Vocational provision). You will consider how key policy and legislative milestones have shaped the contemporary educational landscape. You will gain a broad understanding of the management, organisation and staffing of a wide variety of educational settings including, early years, the marketised nature of both compulsory schooling and the post-compulsory sector, and the under-researched area of alternative provision which houses the permanently excluded. The assessment asks you to write an essay on issues within the module that are of interest.</p>
