You will present an interim version of your training materials for Task 2 to a group of peers and your module tutor for feedback.

Assessment 2: Written Assignment

You will develop training materials for educational support staff within a chosen setting (e.g. nursery, mainstream primary, special school, FE college). The materials will focus on one area of development and outline key information support staff would need: features of atypical development in this area and barriers to learning, the impact on families, pedagogy and practice to support pupils in this area. Your training materials can be presented as annotated PowerPoint slides, annotated handouts, an annotated booklet or in a format negotiated with your tutor.

You will write a 2000 word essay that will focus on key theoretical perspectives on child development, atypical development and social inclusion. You will analyse one area of educational practice in light of these theories

<p>You will study theories of child development from historical, psychological and sociological perspectives, exploring how children with SEND are constructed within these narratives. You will explore atypical development, examining a range of conditions as outlined in current legislation and policy, and analysing pedagogical approaches utilised to address SEND in a range of educational settings. You will explore the impact of SEND on families and demonstrate critical understanding of support systems within and beyond educational settings. You will study how to develop effective training for educational staff. </p>
