Assessment 1: In-Class Test

Students are asked to provide 5 in class problem solutions (Excel worksheets). These solutions are formative assessments and will not be marked. However, each solution will be given a 4% attendance mark (20% in total) - students need to not only attend the problem solving sessions, but also need to provide their own solutions. The tutor will give formative feedback to the problem solutions. If students miss the sessions, they are given an additional opportunity to submit their solutions. Students will also have to write a commentary (including self reflection, e.g., what have they learnt from the problem solutions, what mistakes they made; what they would do differently and why).

This individual report is a commentary (including self reflection, e.g., what have they learnt from the problem solutions, what mistakes they made; what they would do differently and why).
Students submit this commentary at the end of the term.

<p>This module will introduce you to a range of practical and analytical planning and decision-making techniques used within the logistics industry. The theoretical part of a set of logistics planning techniques is explained in lectures whilst their application is addressed in the computing tutorials. You’ll become familiar with the use of industry specific software in the area of optimisation modelling and linear programming, transportation planning, vehicle routing, forecasting, inventory control, project planning and facility decisions.</p>

Understand the key stages involved in developing models within appropriate computer software.

Critically evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solve logistics problems both manually and through the use of a computer package.

Appreciate the applications and limitations of these models.

Use a range of established techniques to initiate and undertake critical analysis of information, and propose solutions to problems arising from that analysis

Effectively analyse the results generated, test alternative scenarios where appropriate and assess their relevance to the project objective.
