Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

Assessment 1: Project Work

1500 word Event planning and delivery.
In a group the students follow all stages of event project management to create, plan, deliver and evaluate a Live Event.  They are assessed in groups in their ability to plan and execute a Live Event by applying event project management techniques, tools and documents.

Assessment 2: Written Assignment

Event analysis.
Individually the students analyse the project management process, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the literature by analysing the case study of their Live Event.

Event Managers must obtain and co-ordinate a wide range of often highly technical resources.  They must do this while meeting precise requirements – and working under often contradictory environmental pressures.
Controlling the ‘event life-cycle’ is therefore the significant determinant of business success.  As a result project management has evolved into a multi-disciplinary role that must consider human, legal, financial, marketing and technological influences and constraints if events are to be developed and run successfully. 
Students will learn strategic and analytical, planning, control and review techniques – and practice them during the planning and implementation of  a live event.  They will choose and apply  appropriate systems to improve operational effectiveness and decision making throughout the project management phases of a Live Event.
Teaching will be via a week session of lectures followed by workshops and planning sessions with their mentors in groups.  Week by week the groups will follow the project management phases in order to execute a Live Event. Throughout there will be an integrated approach, with strong links to other areas of the student’s programme such as Design and Events Technology.

Execute a range of Health and safety best practices to a Live Event.

Evaluate the performance of a Live Event using appropriate benchmarks.

Apply Project Objectives and build realistic schedules and cost predictions to implement  a Live Event.

Identify the implications of external influences including sustainable and ethical considerations on the project team.

Examine the major Health and Safety responsibilities of the event manager.

Evaluate the characteristics of an effective project team and project management systems.

Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of available planning and control techniques.

Implement effective reporting, best practice and contingency for each initiative.
