To develop the students understanding of Financial Accounting in relation to companies by examining the sources of authority for accounting practice and considering applications of accounting standards in preparing published financial statements.  To develop skills in analysis and interpretation of financial statements.
To introduce the theory and practice of preparing consolidated financial statements, including partly-owned subsidiaries and associated companies.
To introduce corporate governance and internal control in a corporate reporting context.
