Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

Students will be introduced to psychological concepts and then equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to acquire, understand and appraise the application of psychological principles and theories to workplaces and organisations. The module will include a critical overview and discussions of personnel psychology, theories of personality, psychometric testing and assessments. Further, the module will enable the students to develop a critical appreciation of psychological theories of human behaviour in the workplace. For example, the extent to which the work tasks and environment contribute to the physical and emotional wellbeing of employees, as well as their motivation and performance. 
Knowledge acquired from this module will provide a foundation for learners to pursue further study at postgraduate level in organisational behaviour, through enabling them to develop a comprehensive understanding of businesses from a psychological perspective.

The Psychology of Work & Organisations

Develop an intricate understanding of the workplace from a psychological perspective.

Be able to appraise the contribution of key figures in psychology, including the implications their research has for the field of organisational psychology.

Critically appraise the issues and assumptions of the theories and principles of psychology within an organisational context.

Be able to critically assess the current status of the discipline and prospective future directions.

Have developed a critical appreciation of current research trends and findings, research methodologies employed presently and historically, and the contribution these make to the understanding of organisational behaviour.

Be able to critically evaluate the underpinning issues and assumptions of the theories and principles of psychology within an organisational context through reflecting upon the application of theory at work.

Evaluate advanced theoretical knowledge showing how organisations engage with psychologists to resolve issues presented by businesses, people and their resources.
