The module is designed to provide students with an understanding of the challenges faced by those involved in leading and renewing organisations in today’s increasingly complex and dynamic national and global operating environment. Students will be introduced to models, theories and research in the area of leadership which will enable them to explore the purpose of leadership within organisations. Upon completion of this module students will have gained an understanding and appreciation of leadership theory and practice and will be able to evaluate and appropriately apply theories to assess leadership issues and propose solutions.

Leadership: Process and Organisations in Context

Identify and effectively communicate leadership issues in relation to the complexities of workplace contexts and managerial/leadership roles.

Be able to apply a range of leadership concepts in order to critically analyse and evaluate leadership issues in the context of organisations and contribute to decision making.

Appreciate the nature of leadership issues using relevant theories, concepts and practical experiences

Make recommendations for the on-going management and leadership of individuals and/or teams in the workplace context.

Evidence self direction and the ability to use theories, concepts and principles in order to critically analyse and evaluate leadership issues and propose solutions.

Evidence an understanding of leadership issues and how the internal and external environments impact upon these.

Understand the leaders own journey and predisposition, and the importance of the leaders’ own self-awareness.
