Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

Materials allowed: Students are permitted to take in a maximum of 4 sides of A4 of their own notes, which are either typed or handwritten.

<p>This module provides students with knowledge of the structure of land law as it relates to England and Wales. It discusses the different types of estates in land, the interests that can arise over land owned by another, the formalities for the creation and protection of estates and interests, rules relating to the transfer of land, and the rights and liabilities of owners of the estates and interests.</p>

Principles of Land law (20 Credits)

Prepare a written analysis of a legal problem that identifies and applies the appropriate legal principles in formulating a solution.

Identify the estates and interests in land recognised by the common law. 

Analyse, evaluate and ultimately synthesise both legal and equitable rules in arriving at a solution to a problem that may arise in relation to the ownership and possession of land.

Understand the processes involved in conveying the title of land from one person to another for both unregistered and registered land.

Demonstrate the means by which legal and equitable estates and interests are protected.

Identify and analyse problems that may arise with respect to the various interests in land.

Demonstrate an ability to research information from primary and secondary sources.

Critically evaluate the law in a given context so as to formulate a solution to a problem.

Understand the role and nature of and the rules relating to leases and third party rights in land.

Understand the concept of property, the classification of property and the role of equity.

Appreciate the social, economic and political context underlying the land law system.

Understand the means by which estates and interests may be protected via the process of registration.

Understand the modifications made to the common law by equity and identify the equitable interests in land.
