Composite sound design: Create a 1-2 minute time machine journey for radio broadcast to be presented in class. You need to decide on the genre (steam punk/futuristic/80s retro), consider the materials, and build an experience including: entering the machine, turning it on, warmup and travel through time, landing, turning off and leaving. The sound must clearly evoke the experience. You can use sound materials that you record, or found online, but emphasis must be on building from the smallest components. For example, build a crash landing from individual elements, don’t just add the sound of one (equivalent to 1500 words).

Sound Design and Critical Evaluation: Follow a brief to design and mix sound for a 90 second film, video or game sequence. Produce a professional standard pre-production plan, include a short critical evaluation that puts your work in the context of the audiovisual repertoire.

<p>This practical module provides you with an understanding of sound production for film, television, computer games and mobile devices. It overviews the variety of jobs and professional contexts so that you can understand how sound works within these media industries. The module provides a practical training in a range of sound production skills; dealing with location recording planning and logistics, preparation and use of equipment, making sound effects and preparing layers of audio for post-production. The module also provides you with an understanding of post-production work, such as preparing a studio, editing and mixing, sound track compilation and mastering. You will also develop an understanding of the expressive qualities of sound, building your understanding of sound design in preparation for final year sound production work.</p>
