Assessment 1: Portfolio (including examples)

The formative element of this module is ongoing, with interim deadlines as per the production calendar and workflow of the moving image project(s) and specialism(s) you have elected to pursue. These project and role-specific individual formative submissions may include a wide range of items, e.g. treatment drafts, contributor agreements, and more.

Assessment 2: Portfolio

You will submit a CRS which evidences that you have explored and implemented a range of research, methods, and practical skills. Examples of said evidence may include universal items (e.g. a reference list inclusive of both reading and viewing) and a diverse range of project and craft-specific items, e.g. the final draft interview question lists used in the production of a short documentary film.

Assessment 3: Oral Assessment

This assessment is comprised of production team colleagues’ evaluation of each individual student’s contribution to the final film. The production group&#39;s combined numerical score for an individual student&#39;s contribution will be supported by prepared individual verbal feedback from each production team colleague. Said feedback will be delivered and discussed in a roundtable conversation led by academic staff.

Assessment 1: Project Work

You and your production group will develop and deliver a negotiated short nonfiction film output. Examples might include a short observational documentary, an archive-based essay film, or a commercial short form piece completed for a speculative or actual client.

TID1430 - Screen and Time

This module aims to expand and enrich your capacities across multiple departments in documentary and commercial short form as you progress through your moving image specialisation journey. Through the collaborative development and production of a short nonfiction film project – documentary or commercial short, the choice is yours – you will explore new contexts and skillsets, e.g. crafting documentary and commercial treatments and pitch decks, writing incisive and narratively cohesive interview questions, prepping a commercial shoot, lighting and framing an interview setup, and much more.

Be able to manage individual and departmental responsibilities while adhering to a nonfiction film project’s wider workflow and delivery requirements

Have the capacity to anticipate and adapt to the creative, material, and circumstantial challenges of filmmaking in a nonfiction context 

Be able to to collaboratively identify and develop original nonfiction ideas for film production 

Develop the capacity to engage with nonfiction filmmaking as a distinct discipline(s) while understanding its points of convergence with fiction filmmaking
