Assessment 1: Project work

Formative assessment is ongoing through directed tasks, feedback and discussion of assignments in practical classes. This includes directed news days, for both in preparation for and during the radio station assessment. Students also receive a total of one hour of voice training, with verbal and written feedback.
Students on journalism degrees, and those on other courses opting in to journalism modules, will work towards a formative practical skills passport of core journalism abilities. This consists of a skills audit logged via a checklist and a blog. The skills align with those set out by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council in their accreditation requirements. Skills developed in this module can count towards the passport, which can also form part of a student’s personal development portfolio.

Project Work

Assessment 1: Portfolio

Assessment 1 is the production of a portfolio of short-form audio sports journalism with associated online content and cues. This will typically include audio clips of varying lengths, a voice piece and a wrap or mini-package.

Assessment 2: Project Work

Assessment 2 is the individual contribution to a group radio station. The cohort will work together to plan, develop and produce a pop-up online radio station, across four live production days at the end of the module. This will include the output of sports radio programmes, news bulletins and social media content.

AIC2123 - Making Radio

<p>This module gives you an understanding of the technical, legal and professional standards involved in digital radio and audio production for broadcast and online; and the practical skills needed in the maintaining of a functioning online radio station with additional online content. You will further develop your abilities to create, produce and present sports radio journalism, and will receive individual voice training. You will also plan, produce and present a sports radio programme. You will work together as a group to plan and run a pop-up radio station along with its associated online platforms.</p>

Include 6 news days (to contribute to 15 days across the whole academic year)
