Assessment 1: Portfolio (including examples)

The formative element of this module is ongoing, with interim deadlines as per the production calendar and workflow of the moving image project(s) and specialism(s) you have elected to pursue. These project and role-specific individual formative submissions may include a wide range of items, e.g. production budget drafts, script development submissions, and more.

Formative Filmmaking Submissions

Assessment 1: Portfolio

You will submit a CRS (including final fiction film) which substantiates your exploration and implementation of a range of research, methods, and practical skills. This evaluation may include a range of evidence for your research into, preparation for, and execution of of your negotiated individual responsibilities on the project. Examples of said evidence may include universal items (e.g. a reference list inclusive of both reading and viewing) and a diverse range of craft-specific items, e.g. mood boards and visual references compiled by the film&#39;s Production Designer.

Critical Reflective Summary

Assessment 2: Oral Assessment

This assessment is comprised of production team colleagues’ evaluation of each individual student’s contribution to the final film. The production group&#39;s combined numerical score for an individual student&#39;s contribution will be supported by prepared individual verbal feedback from each production team colleague. Said feedback will be delivered and discussed in a roundtable conversation led by academic staff.

Peer Evaluation

This module aims to broaden and strengthen your grasp of moving image specialisms and professional practices through the creation of a short fiction film. Working in a production group, you will conceive, propose, and refine a project for production. Intensive film genre and specialist role research will support the preproduction, production, and postproduction of the collaboratively completed short fiction film: a proving ground and catalyst for your creative, technical, and professional development to come.

Be able to recognise the function, conventions, and interplay of specialist departments and roles across fiction filmmaking preproduction, production, and postproduction, as appropriate  

Be capable of communicating and collaborating successfully with others in the production of a fiction film 

Be able to employ problem-solving skills in meeting creative and aesthetic objectives within and beyond negotiated specialist roles 

Develop the capacity to critically assess and interpret screenplays and related narrative/conceptual documentation with reference to dramatic structure, characterisation, visual/nonverbal storytelling, film budgeting and scheduling, and specialist departmental considerations 

Be equipped to demonstrate competent (Level 4) moving image specialist execution, informed by substantive research and preparation  

Establish the capacity to apply that understanding within the material and temporal bounds of undergraduate student fiction film production
