Assessment 1: Portfolio (including examples)

The formative element of this module is ongoing, with interim deadlines as per the module guide and the workflow of the moving image project(s) and specialism(s) you have elected to pursue. These project and role-specific individual formative submissions may include a wide range of items, e.g. draft step outlines, lighting plans, and more.

Assessment 1: Portfolio

You will submit a CRS (including final film) which evidences that you have explored and implemented a range of research, methods, and practical skills. Examples of said evidence may include universal items (e.g. a reference list inclusive of both reading and viewing) and a diverse range of craft-specific items, e.g. shot lists.

Critical Reflective Summary

Assessment 2: Oral Assessment

This assessment is comprised of production team colleagues’ evaluation of each individual student’s contribution to the final film. The production group&#39;s combined numerical score for an individual student&#39;s contribution will be supported by prepared individual verbal feedback from each production team colleague. Said feedback will be delivered and discussed in a roundtable conversation led by academic staff.

Peer Evaluation

This module introduces you to a range of moving image specialisms and filmmaking/entertainment workflow across genres and sectors: how those departmental specialisms operate and integrate in the professional world of the moving image, and best practices for adapting those norms to student filmmaking. Discussion of above-the-line roles will anchor a wider exploration of departmental specialisms as students assemble into filmmaking project groups. This film project serves as a bridge to the more formalised modes of working that will increasingly come to characterise your filmmaking on and off campus.

Collaborative Cinema

Cultivate the ability to understand and interpret the core function, conventions, and interplay of specialist departments and roles across moving image preproduction, production, and postproduction 

Be able to critically assess cinematic form, content, technology, and sectors  

Have the skills to adaptively apply that understanding within the material and temporal bounds of undergraduate student film production 

Be equipped to identify appropriate technologies and processes to achieve a variety of tasks in moving image preproduction, production, and postproduction 

Hone the ability to draw upon established and emergent conventions across moving image sectors and specialisms to develop practice
