Assessment 1: Written practice exercise

Opportunity for formative assessment will be provided through the practical sessions.  Work will be set as written practice exercises and feedback will be provided on the students&#39; efforts. Model answers will be provided to certain exercises for comparison and evaluation. Students will be able to gain informal feedback on work in progress by taking it to the practical for their tutor to review. Students will also have the opportunity to self-assess their work to gain a greater understanding of the assessment process.

Assessment 1: In-Class Test

One hour unseen open book in-class (online) test through the University’s VLE, covering Java programming concepts, code reading and evaluation. The test covers core Java programming and object-oriented programming concepts.

Assessment 2: Portfolio

Working individually, submit a Java project that contains all the files and classes that make up your program in a single zip file (including any required libraries needed to run the project), along with a 500-word document containing a description and screenshots showing everything working.

<p>This module aims to introduce you to fundamental programming concepts using an object-oriented programming approach. Additionally, you will gain knowledge of high-level notions of algorithms, data structures, and program testing and evaluation.</p>

Explore class relationships and associations. Utilize object-oriented design principles. Recognise the concept of correctness, verification and validation in testing object-oriented programs.

Write documentation using standards and tools commonly used in the industry for documenting object-oriented code. 


Implement, test, and debug computer programs using object-oriented programming.

Understand the principles and structures of object-oriented programming (OOP). 

Master fundamental OOP concepts. Identify and use suitable algorithms and data structures for solving practical problems.

Apply fundamental object-oriented programming concepts to create programmatical solutions to problems.
