A portfolio including design work undertaken at undergraduate level and during the ‘year out’ that demonstrates your readiness to undertake further study.

A Report equivalent to an essay of approximately 3,500 words that summarises your ‘work experience’ and reflects upon the experience and knowledge gained during a period of professional and personal development.

The purpose of this module is to enable you to obtain maximum benefit from a period of practical experience and/or personal and professional development following completion of your RIBA Part 1 studies. This is commonly known as the ‘Year Out’.
You will prepare for subsequent full-time study, on ‘Year One’ and ‘Year Two’ of the Master of Architecture/Master of Architecture (International) programme.
In accordance with the RIBA Guidelines for Practical Training, following completion of your undergraduate studies you are expected to undertake – and to maintain a record of a period of practical training and/or personal and professional development.
The module will provide you with counselling and advice in support of the Module Learning Outcomes and will monitor your experience to assist you to achieve maximum benefit from your practical experience.  It is expected that you will apply and develop the knowledge and skills gained during your undergraduate (RIBA part 1) studies and that you will develop your understanding of the construction industry and the role of the architect.
