Working to unlock the potential of your developed design and pattern cutting skills, you will combine independent research enquiry, concept development and technical exploration in this your Major Project.  As a culmination of your research and development built during previous modules this project will bring together the aesthetic, functional and professional features of your work. You will consider the future of fashion industry, the retail renaissance, and embrace innovation in design, materials and modes of working. Emphasis is placed on exploratory and versatile approaches to fashioning the body through the craft of pattern cutting. The Major Project provides an opportunity for in-depth research into an area of interest to the student and the development of methods that support this. You will work to research, develop, critically reflect, refine and communicate both your methodological approach and your conclusions
You will undertake a comprehensive research project of your own choice to critically engage with commercial, bespoke, conceptual contexts or new modes of business and in response to the complex challenges of an ever-changing, international market and consumer tastes. You will build upon your project proposal to develop a final stage framework to realise your outcomes, this may include a group project, subject to negotiation with your specialist supervisor.  This in-depth research project will act as a vehicle to realise new ideas in narrative and expression through materials and new approaches to pattern creation.  
The realisation of your innovative and rigorous concepts for the advancement of creative pattern cutting, should be underpinned by sustainable and ethical approaches to social, cultural, ecological and professional contexts. This may include imaginative and user-centred approaches to materials, processes and methodologies in fashion design and cutting, and rigorous testing of these ideas against current trends within the fashion and or costume industries.
You will present your ideas through a design portfolio that may include, visual studies, fashion illustration, design and pattern development, experimental stand work, finished garments, technical drawings, illustration, pattern specifications, digital media and written text.
