The Photography Major Project is the culmination of your research, advanced studio practice and professional development. In this module you will initiate a comprehensive research project of your own choosing that demonstrates a level of complexity concomitant to professional contemporary photographic practice.
You will build upon your project proposal to develop a final stage framework to realise a set of outcomes and this may include group work subject to negotiation with your specialist supervisor. The Final Major Project will bring together the conceptual, aesthetic, functional and professional features of your work.
Working with a robust proposal you will rigorously test approaches, techniques, materials, and technologies of pre and post production to realise a unique photographic practice. The work you make will demonstrate a focused interrogation of modes and philosophies of practice informed by technological, social, cultural, ecological, theoretical and professional contexts. You will test your knowledge and understanding of appropriate publishing formats at key stages and present the culmination of your creative innovations in a showcase portfolio. Your individual project may evidence exemplary approaches to photographic practice in landscape, portraiture, documentary, abstract, architecture, narrative, motion, environmental, street, travel, culture editorial, commercial/artistic photographic genres and and/or other hybrid and transdisciplinary forms.
To stimulate intellectual and personal development, and a deep knowledge of advanced contemporary contexts, it is imperative that you work autonomously to identify and rigorously test key analogue and/or digital processes. The Major Project provides an opportunity for in-depth research into your unique area of interest. You will work to research, develop, critically reflect, refine and communicate both your personal methodological approach to photography and your conclusions, seeking an informed resolution to your personal photographic enquiry.
