Assessment 1: In-Class Test

Online assessment is through the University’s VLE. This is a timed assessment, which you will have to complete in your own time before the given deadline. The on-line quizzes provide a set of questions that assess your ability to demonstrate understanding of the basic principles of project planning and control, thus developing critical self-awareness and personal literacy.

Assessment 2: Project Work

Individual project report to cover a range project planning and control techniques, human resources management in construction projects and risk and value management.  A major piece of individual project assignment act as consolidating and integrating vehicles for the taught material. 
 

<p>This module is aimed at preparing you to manage projects within the built environment through the use of advanced planning and control techniques. Both Building Surveying and Construction Project Management students will be benefit from this module as both the professionals are expected to engage in project management activities within the construction industry. You will learn and apply a range of skills in project planning, scheduling, monitoring and control. Both traditional project management and planning techniques and new, lean construction based approaches will be discussed.</p>

Project Planning and Control

have the ability to develop appropriate plans for a project, considering variability and project complexity.

be able to critically evaluate the application of various tools and techniques for project management.

have understanding principles of human resource management including motivation, leadership and employment law.

be able to understand the theory and practice of project and human resource management in construction.

have knowledge of the roles of stakeholders and success measures at the outset of a project and recognise their achievement or otherwise at completion.

be able to understand the phases of development and implementation of projects in the built environment.
