This Honours level Specialism: Digital Technology for Fashion Design module explores and develops pathway specific techniques and processes relating to the digital technology used within garment production and manufacturing from concept to product. Appropriate theoretical primary and secondary based research sourced from published and esteemed resources will underpin the critical importance of ‘digital design translation’ from pattern cutting through to pattern grading and specification (‘spec’) sheets, to create the final product. Pattern design software (PDS) methods will be explored and applied to fashion design outcomes, demonstrating an understanding of their place within a globally considered garment production context. You will produce a comprehensive technical garment pack that is supported by the use of pattern design software (PDS) to produce appropriate garment patterns, grading and lay-plan material and data. The technical garment pack will be produced at Honours level and should demonstrate advanced practical presentation skills for communicating a variety of research data (verbal, visual and written).
Professional practice and industry awareness will be developed through specific project briefs; where possible, live industry and/or competition briefs will be integrated into the module.
You will be encouraged to consider sustainability, ethics, and/or diversity through creative development and technical applications.
The syllabus is likely to include the following:a
