This module develops an understanding of animation culture, whilst also introducing professional practice and processes of exhibiting work. Animation is both a form of entertainment and a critical and cultural practice. An analysis of a range of animation festivals, alongside a series of submitted films will introduce vital issues within contemporary animation theory, and trace the emergence of some of the subject’s most influential ideas and techniques. You will learn to recognize and understand key conventions and contexts, whilst exploring their overlap with a set of technical skills which might be employed in the context of your studio projects. A written assignment and a festival pitch will test your confidence and ability to demonstrate a rich engagement with contemporary animation practice.
