The learning strategy is one of learning through exploration in ideas, technology and materials. Familiarity with one another’s projects will introduce you to the breadth of contemporary animation practice. Central to the module learning methods is the introduction of a qualitative student based approach which both triangulates and tightly integrates the production of creative work with the expansion of technical skills and the development of related theoretical agendas. Individual students discuss their work in bespoke tutorials, with tutors and/or peers. These feedback sessions are used to continuously develop ideas, expand animation practice and identify tehnical skills and requirements. You will also engage in self-directed study, and be encouraged to document your activities through the use of film and animation.

Self-initiated and negotiated briefs will enable you develop you own distinctive qualities as an animator, and your own idiosyncratic visual interpretation of ideas and themes. Teaching will provide feedback mechanisms to encourage critical reflection on the development of your animation practice: you will be encouraged to document your reflection within an ongoing documentary/showreel. Collaborative aspects of project work will encourage discussion of ideas and experimental practice, enabling you to position yourself creatively within the context of your peer-group.
