Assessment 1: Portfolio

A Portfolio presenting a Case Study. In addition, the Portfolio should also include a reflective report evaluating the roles, responsibilities and skill requirements of Architectural Technologist, Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors or Construction Project Managers (depending on the selected course) and their interaction with other professionals in the industry. Also, discuss the role of professional bodies for the selected professions. As a part of this, a self-reflective PDP is to be prepared based on a SWOT analysis to identify the individual development priorities.

Portfolio

An overall understanding about how the construction industry works is essential for all the students who perceive a career in the construction industry. This understanding lays the foundation for you to, not only recognise your role within the construction process, but also to recognise and appreciate the work of other professionals within the industry. Within this remit, the scope of this module is to introduce the overall construction business to you.
This module discusses the nature of the construction industry and its place within the national and international economy.
This module explores the construction project lifecycle, looking at different types of construction projects and different project stakeholders (client, the design team, contractor, etc.) and their roles and responsibilities. It introduces different forms of procurement and commercial management and how they affect team working, organisational and management structures of construction projects.
The module also introduces the students to aspects of Risk Management and strategies to comply with Health and Safety measures in Construction Projects.
Moreover, this module leads the students to explore the individual roles of construction professionals with specific emphasis given to the role of Architectural Technologists, Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors and the Construction Project Manager. Basic skill requirements of construction professionals are discussed here and having identified skill requirements, you are expected to create your Personal Development Plan (PDP) within this module.

be able to identify, analyse, evaluate and utilise information in relation to the development and production of work.

be able to identify the roles of Architectural Technologists, Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors Architects, Engineers and Construction Project Managers, and assess the role of professional bodies (eg RICS, CIOB, PAQS, BQSM, etc).
