Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will
1.
Critically assess the drug discovery, design, development and manufacture of medicines with reference to current practice.
2.
Critically appraise drug and formulation design strategies with reference to key principles, approaches and potential future developments in major therapeutic areas.
3.
Evaluate and make distinctions on all the stages involved in drug development and the methods used to ensure efficacy of medicines and biopharmaceuticals.
4.
Appreciate role of targeted therapies in future medicines.
5.
Debate how a drug’s key features impact its reactivity, action, physico-chemical, chemical compatibilities, degradation and stability.
6.
Critically appraise the benefits and challenges associated with drugs from biotechnology origins and future directions.
7.
Correlate pharmaceutical principles with a literature survey to propose viable formulations, to orally describe and defend the proposed product and development profile and to manufacture it.

Summative Assessment
Assessment 1: Oral Assessment
Assessment 2: Written Assignment
Assessment Criteria
Summative assessment will comprise an extended formulation development report which will include information gathered and studied from a wide range of literature sources as well as from current practitioners from relevant areas.
The proposed formulation will be presented as a seminar and will then be prepared in the laboratory and … For more content click the Read More button below.
