<p>In this module you examine the molecular basis of product formulation and learn how to use advanced process simulation tools. You will also work in teams to complete an advanced design project. The advanced design project will involve comparing and critiquing different production routes for a speciality chemical. During the design project, you will work in small groups to generate an innovative product/process design to fulfil specific need.</p>

be able to evaluate a range of design options for a specific product or process.

be able to employ effective computational, independent working and time management skills.

be able to use the extrapolation method to evaluate the properties of heavy molecules such as vapour pressure, density, viscosity and surface tension for pure and mixture of components.

be able to establish numerical strategy and program it into code for reaction kinetics.

be able to carry out the simulation and design of processes using available tools.

be able to critically analyse and evaluate process design with the aid of computational tools.

be able to estimate target properties of a structured component based on its molecular structure from functional groups, those properties include normal boiling point, standard enthalpy of formation, vaporisation and Gibbs energy, critical temperature, volume and pressure with the use of available models.
