Synopsis

This module will give the student a systematic understanding of the importance of quality control and assurance, not only in the forensic science laboratory, but throughout from crime scene to court room. This module will also give a critical overview of the presentation of evidence, both written and oral.

Learning Strategy

Lectures and tutorials will be delivered and supported by unsupervised study.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will
1.
demonstrate systematic understanding of knowledge of how forensic science contributes to a criminal justice system.
2.
have critical understanding of the importance of quality control and assurance of the evidence from the crime scene to the courtroom.
3.
have comprehensive understanding of case assessment and interpretation and how it can be applied to forensic casework.
4.
take contemporaneous and clear notes in the form of Examination reports.
5.
produce expert witness statements and reports and be able to defend them in a court of law.
6.
carry out case assessment and interpretation utilising Bayesian inference.
