<p>This module provides a comprehensive coverage of both NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry and how these techniques can be used to characterize and quantify analytes of interest to chemists, biologists and forensic scientists. In the first section the emphasis is on developing students’ knowledge of the instrumental techniques. The most recent advances in instrumentation, including advances in the use of high field NMR and tandem and hyphenated MS systems, are covered and this is achieved through consideration of modern day applications of the techniques. As part of the course students will be exposed to methods used to interpret a range of different types of analytical data including; 1D and 2D-NMR spectra, and EI and ESI Mass spectra.</p>
