Practical design and implementation on mid-range microcontrollers using computer control techniques to meet given requirement specifications. Microcontroller implementation to be demonstrated via individual presentation and program code to be submitted.

Taught material will contribute an element every week to the SAIL programme (Score As I Learn) submitted via the VLE platform. 11 x 15 minutes weekly assignments. Each assignment will be worth 3%. Taking the best 8 out of 11 scores.

A technical report based on microcontroller based system design and implementation.

<p>This module provides a critical review of the hardware and software aspects of microcontroller interfacing. You will develop an understanding of embedded systems concepts through the use of various peripherals. You will explore various aspects of microcontroller based systems such as support programs, design environment, memory utilization, compilation, and modularization. This module will extend your design skills in both software and hardware in implementing microcontrollers in embedded systems.</p>

Computers in Control

Have knowledge and understanding of the internal and external microcontroller peripherals and the interface requirements of a range of typical devices and applications.

Have knowledge and understanding of the hardware/software methods and models to analyse the design requirements of a typical embedded systems and interfacing design strategies.

Design a microcontroller-based embedded system and apply appropriate hardware/software tools to develop the required software.

Critically evaluate the performance and effectiveness of any given embedded system.
